Diabetes is now an international epidemic. Studies show that over the next 25 years, the number of Americans with diabetes will double from 23 million to 44 million and affecting people at an earlier age.
Diabetes is now the 6th leading cause of death in America. Diabetes is a metabolic disorder in which the body is unable to process sugar properly, resulting in high glucose levels in the blood. If left untreated, it often leads to other serious complications such as impotence, renal failure, heart disase, gangrene and blindness.

Diabetes is classified into three types:

·         Type 1:  The body makes little or no inusulin and requires
insulin injection

·         Type 2   The body makes insulin but cannot use it properly

·         Gestational: A temporary condition in which the body unable to use insulin properly during pregnancy and diabetes will go away when pregnancy is over

Symptoms associated with diabetes:

  • Excessive thirst
  • Frequent urination
  • Blurred vision
  • Fatigue & Emotional changes
  • Dry mouth
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Numbness and tingling of the extremities

In Traditional Chinsese Medicine (TCM), diabetes is known as "xiao ke", which is translated as "wasting and thirsting disorders."  Causes include improprer diet,  excess intake of sweet food, sedentary lifestyle, emotional disturbances and geneitc predispostion. The combination of these causes eventually lead to
yin depletion with heat in the body producing symptoms of excessive thirst, hunger and urination affecting the lung, stomach and kidney respectively.
In diabetes, the body's three pathways of qi, blood and water are often dysfunctioned.

In treating diabetes, Chinese medicine not only treats the manifested symptoms but also addresses the underlying patterns of disharmony and treatment is tailored to the individual's needs.

Our treatments not only aim to control blood sugar but also address
